King's Lynn B Schoolboys Team were in action at Cottenham's home tournament

<img src="http://www.kingslynnrhc.co.uk/teams/images/SchoolboysB-2011.jpg" width="200px" align="left" alt=Schoolboys B" />
The first game was against Invicta and Lynn started strongly, creating plenty of chances and hit the crossbar and post, before succumbing to an Invicta goal before half time. In the second half Lynn B were certainly not helped by some dubious refereeing decisions including a good penalty shout. However Lynn B continued to battle and were kept in the game by Megan who was making some good stops when Invicta did break through. When it looked as though it was not going to be our day, Dan Howlett scored with under a minute to go to enable the team to gain a well deserved point.

Norwich were next and they had already impressed in a tight game against Cottenham. Starting well, Lynn were unlucky to go behind to a goal that had come off the Norwich player's skate. Putting this disappointment behind them, the team gradually imposed themselves on the game and took a 3-1 lead into half-time. The match continued in the same vein with good team play and four more goals giving the team a 7-1 victory.

Last up were the hosts Cottenham and Lynn B were off to a bad start, conceeding a goal in the first minute. not helped by some poor defending Lynn went into the break 3-0 down. Starting more purposefully in the second half they managed to apply some pressure, but the finishing was not there and the chances went begging. Cottenham on the other hand took their chances and ran out as 8-1 winners with the last goal again being very questionable as their player was standing in the 'D'.

Lynn B certainly played well again as a team and all players again gave good performances all round.

The Team:
Rees Parfitt (Captain), Megan Norris (GK), Tom Barry, Harry Greeves, Jamie Griffin, Daniel Howlett & Alex Hunn

A Great Team Effort - 19th November 2011

The Schoolboys B were in action at Lynnsport, where the King's Lynn A were holding their home tournament.
The B team's first match was against the King's Lynn A Team, who were unbeaten last season and had already started well this season.

The Lynn B team started strongly and held the A team for a full 5 minutes before finally conceeding a goal.
Once the initial breach had been made the Lynn B team were then under pressure as Lynn A now had their tails up after being frustrated for so long.
Although Lynn B played well, the A team proved to be too strong and rolled out easy winners at 13-2.

Next up were Bury, the league leaders, and we knew this was also going to be a tough game.
Again, Lynn B defended well and man marked well. Bury again being held at bay for 5 minutes before they managed to score.
Bury found it hard gong against our well organised defence and at half time, Lynn B were only 3-1 down against the league leaders.
The second half saw much of the same play with Lynn B defending well but ultimately going down to a 7-2 defeat.

The last game of the day was against Invicta. Although Lynn B had played well in the previous matches, this proved to be their match of the day. A well organised defensive display saw them limit Invicta to a solitary goal in the first half, which was cancelled out by a great goal from Tom Barry. the goal was obviously appreciated by Invicta when one of their players came and congratulated Tom.

The second half Invicta then took a 4-1 lead. This is when Lynn B finally woke up and started to fightback. With Megan Norris in goal providing some outstanding saves to keep Lynn B in the game, they scored 2 goals which saw them take the initiative and the momentum was with them. The final turning point came in the game when Rees in a goal scoring position, was “impeded” and went off injured. With no foul given Invicta took the ball and scored from the opportunity.
Lynn B had lost their momentum and the game finished at 5-3

The whole team fought really hard and put in immense performances throughout the day.
Who knows what could have happened against Bury or Invicta if even just a couple of the many chances we created had gone in?

Although it would be hard to pick out any one performance from a team that all gave 100%, I would like to give a special mention to Megan, who I think had an outstanding day in goal and certainly kept us in the games giving us the chance to maybe pick up a result.

The Team:
Rees Parfitt (Captain), Megan Norris (GK), Daniel Howlett, Jamie Griffin, Tom Barry, Alex Hunn, Harry Greeves & Josh Bates

Match Report - 19th November 2011

Kings Lynn Schoolboys A team had their home tournament of the season at Lynnsport on Saturday 19th November. As they were the home team four games were played against Bury, King’s Lynn Schoolboys B and two new-comers from the south Herne Bay and Invicta.

The first game against King’s Lynn B was almost like Friday night training. However, Lynn B were not in the mood to make it easy for Lynn A and they put up a strong fight. Despite determined play by the B team goalie Megan, Lynn A gained their first victory.

Game two against Invicta started slightly subdued until the A team began to work-out their opponents style of play, which was different to the last tournament. Good solid possessive play won through and the second-half of the game saw them confidently forge ahead to a second victory.

The third game became one of exciting end-to-end hockey as the Bury team were obviously intent on giving the A team a challenge. It has to be said that the brilliant goal-keeping in the first-half by Kasia, kept them in the game and gave them the determination to forge ahead to a comfortable win.

The last game against Herne Bay was a new experience as Lynn A had never met them before. Again, Herne Bay came out fighting full on and skating fast. Lynn A were momentarily caught out and found themselves behind for a change. In this game Will had to pull-out some fine saves to keep Lynn A afloat. Once again Lynn A stepped up to the challenge and finished the day un-beaten.

Lynn A would like to thank every-body who assisted them during the tournament , especially Margaret and Helen at the time-keepers desk.

The Team:
Will Martin (GK), Kasia Parfitt (GK), Josh Taylor (Capt.)
Andy Barnes, Ryan Barnes, Josh Gay & Jack Tucker

Schoolboys A Match Report - 30th October 2011

King's Lynn Schoolboys A Team had their first tournament of the season at Soham hosted by the newly joined Invicta team. The first game was a low-key affair playing a depleted Ely team. Without their regular goalkeeper and any reserves it is fair to say that Ely put-up little resistance to King's Lynn and at one point the game was played with three players on each team.

The second game was much more of a challenging one against our old rivals Cottenham.Slowly King's Lynn forged ahead and even against some very questionable referee's decisions , still managed a comfortable win.

Lastly Kings Lynn played the home team Invicta. This game proved to be unexciting as Invicta played a 'box' style game which limited any sparkling play from either team. King's Lynn simply played a heavily possessive game and forced the openings to score their goals.Invicta gained a penalty through Lynn's frustration but it was saved brilliantly by Kasia towards the end of the game.

Although none of the games were fullfilling it was a good points start to the season.

Match Report - 29th October 2011

This was the second outing of the season for the team, this time at Cambridge Regional College.

First game of the day was against tournament hosts Cottenham. The first half saw Lynn dominate from the start with good combination passing and the opposition resorting to long shots which were successfully saved by the keeper therefore going into half time 4-0 leaders. The second half saw more of the same with Lynn using Cottenham's less than accurate passing to their advantage resulting in all five outfield players scoring in this game to finish with a 9-0 win.

Second game of the day was against Norwich A. This was a hard and fast game showing the other teams how a game at this level could be played. The smaller rink suiting Norwich's playing style, Lynn kept applying the pressure and were rewarded with two well crafted goals before half time. The second half saw more in front of goal chances but couldn't make it into the back of the net, with Norwich getting a goal back saw Lynn having to settle for a 2-1 win, this was without doubt the best game of the season so far.

Third game of the day was against Ely A and saw Lynn take the lead in 18 seconds, this being the fastest goal of the day. This was an unremarkable game with Lynn taking control fully after this and never being troubled again coming out 10-2 winners.

The final game of the day was against newcomers Invicta from Kent. An uneventful first half saw us 4-0 in front, more of the same for the second half with Lynn coming out 11-0 winners with all five outfield players scoring and the keeper having another clean sheet.

Lynnsport held an open day last weekend a chance for people to come & have
a go at all sports. KLRHC was given 1:00pm to 3:00pm to put on a display of
roller hockey & to let new people have a go.

I would like to thank all the players that came, and the parents that
help me run what turned out to be a very successfully afternoon.

We had 12 youngsters have a go and all were very interest, and impressed
with roller hockey. They were amazed at the skill of the players. Keep an
eye out over the next few weeks. We should have some new members to our club
and who knows maybe some England players in the making.

u11's Match Report - 8th October 2011

The U11’s first tournament of the season was played at our home venue of Lynnsport.

Our first game was against the more experienced Cambridge team.
Although we conceded 6 goals, Kings Lynn managed to score 4 goals in reply.

In our second game we played Peterborough (who finished runners up in
the under 11’s last year). Again a very close game, with Kings Lynn
defending well until Peterborough eventually run out 2 - 1 winners.

Third game was against Herne Bay United. This was a tough game for
our young team. Herne Bay United went onto beat us 5 - 0. This game
tested our defence and also tested our goalie Joshua Roberts. Herne
bay United previously beat Cambridge 9 - 1, so the under 11’s held
it together well! A good performance from the whole team.

Our last game we played Grimsby. This was always going to be a tough
match, however under 11’s played with good fighting spirit. The end
result was Kings Lynn 3 - 10 Grimsby.

A really good effort throughout the day from each and every player.
It was a good experience for the whole team including the reserves:
Ria Griffin (6) and Keaton Vincent (6) who experienced their first
tournament. Well done Under 11’s!

TheTeam:
Joshua Roberts (GK), Finley Griffin, Jason Gay,
Ryan Howlett, Ethan Shread, Joseph Hawes, Reserves Ria Griffin & Keaton Vincent

Inters A First Tournament Of The Season

This was our first tournament of the season over at Soham.
The first game of the tournament was against a strong local side Norwich A, who have one of the best goal keepers in the league. In the first half strong play and a tight game saw both sides level with a score of 1-1.
The second half saw King's Lynn change tactics slightly going for flick shots instead of slap shots coming out winners with a 4-1 final score.

The second game of the day was against old rivals Ely A. This was also a tight first half for both sides with a score of 2-1 to Lynn. The second half saw King's Lynn take control, playing the better hockey and coming out 6-2 winners.

The third game saw us playing an all girls squad Ely B, who are a long standing group of girls with a lot of experienced players. King's Lynn got into a 3-1 lead at half time and the second half saw us extend our lead, with strong play and running a 3 man attack saw us cruise to a comfortable 7-2 win.

The final game of the day against Cottenham was the easiest game of all with a score of 4-1 at half time and a full time score of 7-3. A pleasing team performance with persistence from all players saw solid training paying off at the end of the day.

B Team Off To A Mixed Start

The King's Lynn Senior B Team had their first outing of the season at Plymouth's home tournament, which was held at Ross Peers Sports Centre.

The first game was against quite a strong Colchester side. The game was very tight throughout though the difference was that Colchester managed to bury some of their opportunities and to finish the game as 3-0 winners.

The next game was against an in form Norwich team who had won their first two games. Another close game saw Lynn hit back quickly after conceeding an early goal. King's Lynn were then given a great opportunity to take the lead through a direct free hit after a Norwich player was Blue carded, however the opportunity was missed and Norwich went on to take a 3-2 half time lead. King's Lynn came out in the second half with determination, however it was Norwich who again struck first, before Lynn then scored again to keep the difference to only one goal. It wasn't enough as Norwich scored twice more before Lynn scored again towards the end. Final score 6 - 4 to Norwich.

Plymouth, the tournament hosts were the final opponents of the day. Lynn, determined to take something away from the day passed the ball confidently and eventually managed to score two quick goals. Going into the break Lynn had a 3-1 lead and they carried this momentum through to the second half where the goals flowed a bit easier. Lynn finally winning the match 7-2.

Playing Walpole first. Tom, Rees, Alex & Megan set out to do their best in their only hope of points in the day.

Keeping their heads and staying goal side, Lynn stayed strong and when the opportunity arose they pushed forward scoring first putting the pressure on Walpole.
Half time and we were 3-0 up. Tiring in the second half, Walpole scored, but Lynn quickly responded with a fourth goal. Again Walpole came back scoring again to bring them just one goal behind. With both teams fighting for the next goal and with just a minute to go the ball was in the back of Walpole's net. The team not letting their guard down held Walpole at bay for the last minute to receive a well earned two points.

For the second game they were joined by A team player Josh Gay and Josh Bates, who normally plays in goal, played in the outfield to help give players a break.
Playing the game as a friendly Lynn went down to Bury 8 - 0

Lynn's last game of the day against Herne Bay was again a friendly which saw King's Lynn come out on top. Lynn managing to overcome their opponents in a closely fought 6-5 result. Sadly no points came Lynn's way.

Let's hope next time with a full team they can do the same.

The Team:
Rees Parfitt (Captain), Megan Norris (GK), Tom Barry, Alex Hunn, Josh Bates, Josh Gay

Season Rolls On Right Track

King's Lynn Minors A team (Under13's) had the first tournament of the season for the club.

They travelled to Burwell in Cambridgeshire where their first opponents of the season were Cottenham who came third to Lynn's runners up place in Division one last season.
With only six seconds on the clock gone, Captain Zak Robinson scored Lynn's opening goal. Other players soon joined in on the action as Matthew Baker and Owen Scott added their names to the score sheet. Half time and Lynn had control of the game at 5 - 0. The Second half saw three more goals making the final score 8 - 0.

Next game was against Letchworth who last season had a very young side, however they now had some new older players with them.
Letchworth began strong testing out Kathryn Baker in goal, but after a few minutes the Lynn team settled down and began passing the ball around shutting Letchworth out of the game. The goals soon came with Ryan Shaw setting up Josh Horn. By half time Lynn were leading 3-0. The Second half saw an over confident King's Lynn side let their guard down as twice Letchworth slipped through the Lynn defence. Regaining composure, Lynn fought back with four more goals to end the game 7-2.

Last game Lynn played Cambridge, formally Chesterton, a new club. Lynn's experienced players were strong from the start with all players getting their names on the score sheet with a final score of 9-0. A great start to the season and with a game in hand King's Lynn are at the top of the league. The team will play again in October, and should be back to full strength as Owen Norris was not able to play as he sustained an injury in another sport.

The Team:
Zak Robinson (C), Kathryn Baker (GK), Owen Scott, Matthew Baker, Ryan Shaw & Josh Horn.

The last games of the season for the King's Lynn Roller Hockey Club's Schoolboys A Team was the most exciting one yet.

They played against Peterborough to win the season Cup. From the off Peterborough came out strongly wanting to gain the upper hand as they were the home team. Peterborough's pressure paid off and they gained a comfortable lead. Half-time saw team coach Chris Kay give an encouraging but firm team-talk and King's Lynn returned to the game with a renewed desire to finish the season un-beaten. Slowly they pulled back and in the dying moments of the game scored to bring the game to a draw. This being a Cup game a definite win was required therefore both teams were now playing extra-time. The first half of five minutes was un-eventful and so another stern team talk led them into the second-half. Finally King's Lynn seized their chance when Peterborough started to slacken from their intense pressure and scored to win the match.

This has been a successful season for the King's Lynn Schoolboys A Team winning both the Eastern Counties Cup Final and the Eastern Counties League.

Schoolboys Through To The EC Knockout Final

Saturday 11th June saw King's Lynn Schoolboys A Team finish their season undefeated after their last three games at the Cup Qualifiers held at Lynnsport, King's Lynn.

King's Lynn joined the competition almost half-way though the day to face Peterborough. As always it was a thrilling game of end-to-end roller hockey but gradually King's Lynn forged ahead to a comfortable victory. The neat game against Ely Green, was again a fast-paced one but King's Lynn managed to snatch another victory to go through to the semi-finals for a place at Cup Finals Day.

Once again we faced the Bury team, who seem to have become our main rivals this season. Bury were attacking with pressure straight-away but gave away a penalty which appeared to cause an argument with the referees and the Bury bench. With this stress growing in the Bury camp and a positive half-time team talk from Head Coach Chris Kay, King's Lynn went out renewed. The second-half was fast paced and Goal-keeper Will Martin worked hard covering several breakaways and slap-shots from Sam Norton. King's Lynn held their lead and once again squeezed a victory.

This was the icing on the cake for the team who have worked hard and have proved that they deserve to be the top team this season.

King's Lynn came top of their qualifying group for the EC Intermediates Knockout Cup, with wins over Peterborough (6-1) & Ely (8-0)
This meant they came up against Bury in the Semi-Finals. An early goal from Harry Greeves followed by an own goal from a mistake by the Bury Keeper meant that Lynn were in control of the game quite quickly. Lynn built on this early success to move easily into the final with a 10-1 winning score line. King's Lynn will now face Cottenham next week at Cup Finals Day.

Schoolboys A 5th June 2011 Match Report

King's Lynn Schoolboys A team played their last tournament of the season at Lynnsport, King's Lynn. The first two games were straight forward wins against the King's Lynn B team and Ely Blue.

However, the third game was a much more exciting one against Bury. Bury came out full on and King's Lynn found themselves having to dig deep to counter the constant pressure that they were held under, which led to the teams being even at one-all at half-time.

After a short positive team-talk by the King's Lynn Head Coach Chris Kay, Lynn returned to the game with renewed vigour and played solid possessive hockey. Finally their patience paid off and they were rewarded with a goal to take them into the lead. Now was the harder job of maintaining this lead. On at least two occasions, Sam Norton from Bury managed to break-away and it was only due to brilliant goal-keeping by Will Martin that the lead was maintained. Thankfully that lead was maintained and Kings Lynn were victorious.

The A team not only finished as unbeaten League champions for the season, but achieved a 100% record of 16 wins from 16 games. They now only have the Knock-Out Cup competition left to play

Congratulations to Lynn Player Sam Kay, who as part of the Middlesbrough Premiership Team, helped secure Boro's first ever Premiership title since 1947, the induction year of the club.

In front of a crowd of 400-500 spectators at the Pier in Herne Bay with 13 minutes left to go, Boro were trailing in the game 3 - 1 so changed their tactics to full rink pressed & managed to pull level at 3 - 3. This would have been enough for Boro to win the Premiership, but with seconds left on the clock they were awarded & scored a direct free hit to go on to win 4 - 3.

The Kings Lynn Minor's team travelled to Burwell to take part in the group stages of the annual Jubilee Knockout Cup Competition, which is organised by the Eastern Counties Roller Hockey Association. The prestigious event is open nationally and attracted entries from as far away as Herne Bay in Kent.

The group stages saw Lynn open up against close local rivals Cottenham. Knowing a winning start was vital, Lynn started brightly and soon opened up a two goal lead. Cottenham however were in determined mood and pulled back a goal just before half time.

“
Showing great maturity for a young side the Lynn players refused to panic
”

After the break both teams played attacking hockey as the game went end to end. As Lynn pressed for further goals Cottenham conceded a penalty hit which was expertly converted by Mathew Baker, smashing the ball into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance of making a save. Cottenham replied with a further goal only for Lynn to score again and take a 4-2 lead. Lynn controlled the game for the final minutes of the game with Tom Barry frustrating the Cottenham attack and preventing any further goals.

Harry Greeves

Nathan Greeves

Jamie Griffin

Rees Parfitt

Day 1
A very hot day meant that this was going to be a long hard day with plenty of fluids to be taken on board
Drawn against last year's Cup Winners Cambridge, things got off to a bad start with Lynn going down to 2 early goals.
The team then started to settle down and play the ball around and were soon back in the match with a goal.

“
a very open match with lots of attacking play from both sides
”

Cambridge scored again to take a 3-1 half time lead.
This was proving to be a very open match with lots of attacking play from both sides in the second half.
The goals started to come from both sides, however Lynn managed to outscore their opponents in the second half to finally bring the match to an end at 5-5. A good result from the team considering their slow start, but also a fair result for both teams as neither really deserved to lose........

Lynn travelling with only one sub due to the unavailability of Ryan Barnes & Sam Kay faced home side Norwich in the opening game. Norwich were out of the blocks sharply & although Lynn maintained good ball possession Norwich broke quickly on the break to threaten Will Martin in goal, Martin remained solid as Lynn passed the ball to a comfortable 3 - 0 lead. Keeping Lynn honest Norwich clawed a goal back with a smartly taken far post finish, tightening up their defence & restricting the home side to just long range efforts Lynn added 3 further goals to go into the break 6 - 1.........

The team travelled to Bushfields looking to improve on recent form and to
try and secure their third place in the league.

The first match was against Colchester.
A slow sluggish start saw Lynn fall behind and were soon 3-1 down. Some consolidation in the team saw them pull a goal back before half time to keep them in the game. With words of encouragement from the coach along with some pointers of positional play, the team went into the second half full of spirit.
The team settled in their play and began to apply pressure on the Colchester team. lt soon paid off and the goals started to come, the team scoring seven goals with only one in reply.
This was a great comeback and the players were smiling and confident.

Next up were Plymouth, who had pipped Lynn twice in previous matches between the teams.

This was schoolboys B's third outing of the season and was Bury's home tournament at Soham.

Borrowing Josh Bates from Roller Village, all games were classed as friendlies

King's Lynn's first game was against old rivals Cottenham, this was fast and pacy with attack and counter attacks from both teams with Cottenham thinking it was going to be a push over, they started with a weaker side than expected but, had to put their star player on to stem the tide, King's Lynn going into half time only trailing by one goal.
The second half was much the same with more pressure from a vastly more experienced side. Cottenham Piled on the pressure as we conceded five more goals to finish 6-1 losers.
A very respectful and heartening result..............

Kings Lynn made the most of home advantage as Grimsby, who this season are playing in the Eastern Counties league, held their Division 1 tournament at Lynnsport last Sunday.

Lynn faced up against Bury's B side in their first match & imposed themselves from the start as they pressured to close down Bury's playing area. Scoring steadily throughout the match, all Lynn's players got rink time & added to the scoreline. Lynn's keeper Elliot Branford was a lonely figure as most of the game took place in Bury's half as Lynn completed a 12 - 0 victory...............

Kings Lynn B Team held their home tournament at Lynnsport and were looking to an improved performance after their last tournament.

Facing a Peterborough team for their opening match things got off to a good start with Daniel Howlett scoring on his first outing for the team. However some very slack defensive play allowed Peterborough to go in at half time holding a 3-1 lead. Some stern words from Head Coach Chris Kay meant that the team had to go back out in the second half and prove themselves. After three minutes, Sam Carroll brought Lynn back to within a goal before Peterborough regained their two goal lead straight from the restart.
King's Lynn slowly started to impose themselves and with Peterborough having no subs, Lynn started to make some headway. Three goals in two minutes from Jamie Griffin saw Lynn take the lead, and then Dan Howlett finished the game off with a goal right before final whistle..............

Minors Div One - 9th January 2011

King's Lynn Minors travelled to Wymondham on the 9th Jan for their latest round of matches.

Sporting their new kit recently supplied by new sponsor MKM building supplies Lynn had to play Bury, Cottenham and the host team Norwich. Lynn had lost to both Bury and Cottenham at the previous tournament so were ready for a couple of tough games.

Lynn started steadily against Bury concentrating on defence and not conceding for the first few minutes. Growing in confidence the players started to push for a goal but were caught out as bury countered and scored to go one up. Lynn replied soon when Zak Robinson arrived in the box to score a simple tap after good work by Owen Scott in the box. The game was all square at half time but Mathew Baker put Lynn ahead with a great solo effort. Bury drew level again and it looked like the game would end in a draw. With only a minute left on the clock Mat Baker and Owen Norris combined to score a great team goal and earn Lynn a well deserved victory.

Next up against Cottenham the opposition started strongly and were soon a goal to the good. Lynn remained composed and played controlled hockey. Cottenham pressed hard for further goals but were unable to convert further chances and eventually Lynn were rewarded with a goal Owen Scott after a fast counter attack. Lynn continued to play well as Cottenham became frustrated at their lack of goals. Two further goals saw the teams level at half time.
After the break the game became more open as both teams looked for the win. With time ticking away and the scores level a 4 all, Owen Scott pressed the Cottenham defence hard. After winning the ball in the corner and beating a further defender on his way into the penalty area he pushed the ball into the far top corner leaving the keeper with no chance of a save. A great solo effort and goal of the day giving Lynn an unexpected victory.

Lynn seemed to run out of ideas in the final game of the day against Norwich. After two fine performances they looked poor against a Norwich team low on confidence. Lynn had to dig deep after falling behind on three occasions. Josh Horn gave Lynn the lead finally in the second half but they d quickly conceded a further goal and the score was level at 4 all. Again Lynn scored to go 5-4 up but Norwich were determined to get something from the game and scored a further goal to level the game again. Lynn pushed hard for a winner and with only seconds left broke into the Norwich half. Leaving only one player in defence a slack Lynn pass gave Norwich the chance to counter. Ryan Shaw marked spare Norwich player out of the game leaving then ball carrier to Lynn Keeper Kathryn Baker. The attacker decided to shoot early and sent the ball towards the top corner of the goal. What looked to be a match winning shot was superbly saved by the keeper as the final whistle blew. Lynn ending up with a draw in the one game they expected to win.

The Team:
Kathryn Baker, Zak Robinson, Mathew Baker, Owen Scott, Owen Norris, Ryan Shaw, Josh Horn

Schoolboys B - 3rd January 2011

The Schoolboys B team had the honour of representing King's Lynn in the first tournament of the New Year, taking part in Ely Blue's home tournament at Ross Peers Sports Centre.

Both teams started slowly and there was a distinct lack of passing by both teams.
Eventually Ely began to take control of the match and after plenty of chances which had been stopped by Kathryn Baker in the Lynn goal, Ely duly went ahead. Some persistent play by Dan on the right wing saw Dan Howlett win the ball and make a great pass across the goal for Rees Parfitt to equalise whilst falling down under a foul by the Ely goalkeeper. 1-1 at the break was soon turned into a 2-1 lead fo Lynn when they were awarded a penalty, duly tucked away by Nathan Greeves. lynn were undone with 4 minutes left when they conceeded a penalty, from which Ely scored. Overall probably a fair result as both teams were really not on the ball.

A much better start against Roller Village saw a faster tempo match with chances for both sides. Lynn fell behind to a silly goal that dribbled over the goal line. Dan Howlett finished a nice move by tucking the ball inside near post to equalise. Lynn then missed a penalty after Dan was fouled in the area, however this was soon forgotten when some good play from Rees on the right found Sam Carrol who tucked the ball away for a 2-1 lead. Poor defending let Roller Village equalise but then Dan Howlett put the ball into the top corner across the goalie and then Sam Carroll created a solo goal with a lovely turn and finish in the area which saw Lynn go in 4-2 up at the break.
Nathan Greeves opened the scoring in the second half with a scorcher from just inside his own half followed 30 seconds later with a near post finish. Sam Carroll then scored from the penalty spot and now Lynn were comfortable at 7-2. Good play from Roller Village saw them hit back with a quick goal. Harry Greeves then came into the game scoring three goals from breakaway moves one of which came whilst being pulled down by the Roller Village goalkeeper. Roller Village then scored a very scrappy goal where the only person who knew where the ball was, was the referee! Dan Howlett skated from his own area to score before Roller Village then scored five seconds from the end. King's Lynn winning 11-5.

The final match for the team was always going to be a hard one against Peterborough.
A much better defensive start to the game saw Lynn players marking and staying tighter but it was just going to be a matter of time. Peterborough were finding it hard but were soon finding the net and halfway into the first half they were 4-0 up, but good goalkeeping from Kathryn kept Peterborough at bay and they had to wait for over 5 minutes before they scored again, that courtesy of an unlucky own goal. Dan Howlett then saw a chance come back off the crossbar before a Blue card to Peterborough gave Harry Greeves the chance to put King's Lynn on the scoreboard before Peterborough again scored just before half time for a 6-1 lead.
Another dribbler over the line saw Peterborough extend their lead before King's Lynn then started to control the game and were holding their own, but were unable to put their chances away whilst Peterborough managed to score two goals in this 10 minute period of play. A back post finish from Peterborough in the last minute saw them finish 11-1 winners

Schoolboys A Report: 18th December 2010

On Saturday 18th December, the Kings Lynn Roller Hockey Club Schoolboys A Team played in the Peterborough Roller Hockey Club's Home tournament at the Ross Peers Sports Centre at Soham Cambs. The team had to play three games in all, which were all challenging.

The first and hardest game was against the home team of Peterborough and Kings Lynn made sure they were fully warmed up at the start. Some fast and furious play ensued but Kings Lynn slowly forged ahead and kept their heads to finish with a firm victory.

The game against Ely provided a straight-forward win with all players getting plenty of play on the rink.

The game against Roller Village , Wisbech was completely different, probably due to the Roller Village team being one of the less experienced teams in this years leaque.A steady flow of goals sent Kings Lynn way ahead and enabled all team members to find the back of the net.It was pleasing to see the team enacting several set moves , that were learnt and practised jn training, which made the goal scoring look simple.

Although both goal keepers were not stretched very far in this tournament they both made some fine saves as hard slap-shots seem to predominate in School boys games.

Team Manager: Jerry Barnes

On Saturday 23rd October the Kings Lynn Roller Hockey Club Schoolboys A team played their second tournament of the season at the Ross Peers Sports Centre, Soham hosted by the Ely Green team.

The first match provided a comfortable win for Kings Lynn against the Roller Village, Wisbech team who are one of the newest and least experienced teams in the league.

The second game proved much more competitive against Cottenham who led at half-time 3:2. Slowly , Kings Lynn pushed ahead by playing solid passing hockey building goal scoring chances whilst frustrating Cottenham into conceding five more goals without scoring themselves.

By continuing to play simply and tightly Kings Lynn finished their last game with a win against Ely Green, the home team. Set- piece play and sharp passing helped all the team members to find the back of the opponents net.
